I recently bought this book. (If you’re interested you can also subscribe to Christina Katz’s blog…) I haven’t read very far into the book, but I’m hoping it will disclose more than the obvious “You have to start networking: facebook, twitter, blogging, conventions, school readings…”
It does have a lot of good reviews on amazon.com and it seems well-structured and informative. It looks like it would be very useful for authors thinking of self-publishing, too. I’ll post an update when I finish it. The book also states something in the first chapters which I recently read here:
According to writer Joseph Epstein, “81 percent of Americans feel that they have a book in them — and should write it.” That’s approximately 200 million people who aspire to authorship.
That would be a lot of competition. Good thing only a percentage of those people actually sit down and write their story. I wonder what would happen to the publishing industry if suddenly another 100 million new people would submit their manuscripts… I suppose the slush piles would become slush Himalayas…
Awesome I’ll check it out, thanks!
Yeah, I’ve decided not to even worry about it. It’s like making widgets – everyone can make a widget and there’s a million different kinds. I’ll just add my to the bucket and if I get a handful of readers, I’ll be happy and then move on to the next book.
Let us know if you find the book useful.
Right! Best to just focus on your own goal, stay positive, work hard … and all that with a little bit of luck might just be enough to let you rise above the rest.
