So Minyi finallllllly finished the cover, and I really like it. (You can see more of her artwork here.)
Adamin, Rise of the Dark has been uploaded onto Smashwords.com (where it’s already available for sale), and it’s waiting for approval so that it can be distributed to the iBookstore, Barnes and Noble, etc.
I’ll be uploading it soon to Amazon.com directly, as Smashwords doesn’t yet distribute to Amazon.
It took me about 9 hours of uninterrupted, concentrated work to format the book properly and upload it (and I work fast and efficiently with computers…). But the Smashwords Meatgrinder (coversion tool, which creates the different ebook files for the different ereaders out there) didn’t find any errors with the formatting, so I guess it was worth it.
If you’re uploading to Amazon.com and Smashwords.com separately, I recommend you check the formatting again with the Kindle Previewer or a real Kindle prior to uploading it to Amazon.com. The Smashwords.com Edition might need slight adjustment so that it works perfectly on the Kindle.
I found the following websites/ebooks quite useful in the whole process:
- How to Self-Publish an Ebook – CNET
- Self-Publishing: 25 Things you need to know
- Smashwords Free Style Guide
- Building Your Book For Kindle
- FAQ of Kindle KDP SELECT Service
If you’re outside of the US you might be able to avoid the 30% tax on earnings from US-based retailers such as Apple’s iBookstore.
- Here’s a nice post that get’s you through the whole process: How UK authors can escape US withholding tax on their royalties
However, you can’t apply for the correct forms before you have earned $10 on Smashwords.com. So be patient. The whole process will, apparently, take months anyway.
- Here’s a nice post with some more information about book-pricing.
DO NOT buy any ebooks that teach you how to self-publish or format your own ebook. Everything you need to know is available online for free. No need to feed lazy and greedy people with ignorance.
What now? Well, there’s no time for resting and celebration (and celebrating what, exactly? Anybody can self-publish, right? Sigh…
)! Volume II has to be published asap (I have a great idea for the second cover) and several short stories need to be written. But it’s always great when things are moving. Progress. Progress is the most important thing.

Muuuaaw! (that’s a big internet kiss from me)
Congrats! And thanks for all the links.
Aww *blush*!
Thank you.
Hey, shouldn’t love be the most important thing?
Apart from that I wish you lots of success!
